The Speaker

Matt Chalmers
Matt Chalmers
Manager, FP&A at i-80 Gold Corp.

Mining finance does not behave like generic FP&A. Costs are read per tonne and per ounce before they are read per department, capital splits between sustaining and growth, joint ventures land as partial interests, and the mine plan has to become a cost plan before anything reconciles to a board pack.

This is an open discussion, not a pitch. Matt Chalmers leads the Vena implementation on the client side at i-80 Gold Corp, working closely with budget owners, corporate finance and the data team. Valeria Bedolla spent years inside mining FP&A teams standing up processes and systems before she started leading implementations for them. They will talk through what actually breaks, what it took to fix, and where it was harder than expected.

We will finish with a live walkthrough of the mining reporting package we use to shorten these builds, and where it extends into budgeting, forecasting, life of mine and what-if.

Agenda for the Session

  • What makes mining finance different: unit costs, AISC, JV and partial interests, sustaining versus growth capital
  • Turning a mine plan into a cost plan that reconciles
  • Matt on the i-80 Gold build: what they set out to fix, how the team came with them, what changed
  • Where mining implementations usually stall, and what we have built to get past it
  • Live walkthrough of the mining reporting package
  • Extending it into budgeting, forecasting, life of mine and what-if
  • Open questions from the floor

If you are evaluating a planning platform for a mining business, this is a chance to hear from someone who has already made the decision and run the build.

Who should attend

Finance leaders, FP&A managers, reporting teams, and transformation stakeholders looking to improve planning and decision support.
