Applying for Data & Platform Engineer at Finaptive Solutions

Toronto

Nov 23, 2025

Location: Hybrid / Remote

Role Overview

We are looking for a hands-on engineer who is equally comfortable building client data pipelines and writing production code for our own product.

You will split your time between two kinds of work. On client projects, you will connect ERP, CRM, HR, and operational systems to Vena and Power BI on Microsoft Azure. On the product side, you will help build Finaptive's Data Integrations Platform, our cloud-based integration and automation platform built with Python, Flask, PostgreSQL, and Celery on Azure. Each side makes you better at the other: client work shows you what the platform needs, and the platform lets you deliver client work faster.

Key Responsibilities

Platform Engineering

  • Design, build, and maintain backend features and APIs in Python and Flask.
  • Build and extend ERP and source-system connectors as reusable platform components.
  • Develop background and scheduled processing jobs using Celery.
  • Design and maintain PostgreSQL data models for application data and configuration.
  • Write tests, review code, and help improve deployment, monitoring, and reliability on Azure.
  • Contribute to security features such as role-based access, encryption, and audit trails.

Client Data Integration and Pipelines

  • Build data pipelines and integrations that move ERP and operational data into Vena, Power BI, and client data platforms.
  • Automate scheduled and on-demand data refreshes that business users can rely on.
  • Use Azure data services such as Data Factory, Data Lake Storage, Synapse, or Microsoft Fabric where the project calls for them.

Data Modelling and Quality

  • Design data models and data marts for finance reporting, planning, and consolidation.
  • Map general ledger, subledger, and operational data into structures finance teams understand and trust.
  • Build validation, reconciliation, and anomaly checks so issues are caught before they reach reports.
  • Maintain data lineage so every number can be traced back to its source.

Client Delivery

  • Work with consultants and client stakeholders to gather data requirements and source system details.
  • Own integration workstreams from design through testing, deployment, and hypercare.
  • Troubleshoot data issues clearly and calmly with client finance and IT teams.
  • Write documentation and handover notes that clients can maintain.

Internal and Continuous Improvement

  • Turn repeated client patterns into platform features, templates, and frameworks.
  • Support scoping and estimates for data, integration, and platform work.
  • Track platform development time and technical work clearly as part of our development records.
  • Stay current on Python, Azure, and AI-enabled data tooling.

Required Experience

  • Three or more years of experience in software engineering, data engineering, or data integration.
  • Strong Python skills, including writing and maintaining production code, not only scripts or notebooks.
  • Experience building REST APIs and backend services.
  • Strong SQL skills, with hands-on PostgreSQL or similar relational database experience.
  • Experience deploying and running applications or data workloads on Microsoft Azure.
  • Experience extracting and transforming data from ERP or other business systems.
  • Ability to explain technical issues clearly to non-technical stakeholders.

Technical and Platform Experience

Experience with one or more of the following is strongly preferred:

  • Backend: Flask or a similar Python web framework, and Celery or another task queue.
  • Azure data services: Data Factory, Data Lake Storage, Synapse, or Microsoft Fabric.
  • ERP systems: Microsoft Dynamics 365 (Finance and Operations or Business Central), NetSuite, Sage, SAP, or similar.
  • BI and EPM: Power BI, and Vena or another EPM/CPM platform, especially data import and export processes.
  • Engineering practices: Git, automated testing, code review, and CI/CD.

Nice to Have

  • Understanding of finance data: chart of accounts, general ledger, consolidations, budgets, and forecasts.
  • Frontend web development experience.
  • Experience with Azure Logic Apps, Azure Monitor, Key Vault, or infrastructure as code.
  • Exposure to Azure AI services, machine learning, or LLM-based tooling.
  • Consulting or client-facing professional services experience.
  • Flexibility to work across North American and international time zones.
  • Multilingual capabilities.

Key Skills and Attributes

  • Builder mindset with a focus on reliability.
  • Comfortable switching between client delivery and product work.
  • Systems thinking.
  • Clear communicator with technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ownership from design through support.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Curiosity and adaptability.
